NEWS -UPDATED 12/13/2011
Dear Friends,
We have some very exciting news! RideABILITY will soon have a new, permanent home!
The New Property
Saturday, December 3, the estate of equine veterinarian Dr. Larry Mayberry was sold at auction. Christy and Harold Henderson decided to bid on part of the estate: a ten-acre parcel that is simply lovely and ideal for RideABILITY. The Mayberry family accepted their offer, and RideABILITY now has a permanent home. The property is located in Brandon, behind the Strong River Equine clinic at 5150 Highway 18 South.
There are five beautifully maintained and fenced pastures, all with excellent water sources. The pastures are dotted with lovely trees for shade, and one even has a pond—we can picture Rowdy splashing in there already! There is a huge, partially finished building with all kinds of possibilities, and attached to that: seven, extra large, covered horse stalls! There is also level sand footing where a 60-foot round pen and large arena previously existed.
Our Neighbors
Another equine vet, Dr. Debra Diaz, has purchased Dr. Mayberry’s practice and a small parcel of property adjacent to ours, so we will have a vet as our next door neighbor!
After the bid for the property was successful, Board Member, Kerri Jordan, informed tthe auctioneer that RideABILITY would be moving there, and he announced this to the large crowd. There was a round of approving applause, and several folks came up to voice their excitement and to offer their support. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming.
RideABILITY’s Move
Probate of Dr. Mayberry’s estate will take between 30-90 days. Once we have possession, we will start the process of readying the property for our riders, family members and volunteers. We want the facility to feel like home to you, and we want your input as we “make it our own.” There are sure to be requests for volunteer work days to clean, paint, build a round pen, and much more.
Thank You to Ashley Scott
Beautiful Hidden Heights Farm has been our home from the beginning, and we will cherish all of the special times we have had there. Many thanks are owed to Ashley Scott for inviting us to operate there and for allowing us to “strengthen the minds, bodies, and spirits of our special needs riders.” A lot of fun has been had along the way, as well!
Winter Break from Lessons
Because of all the planning and work our move will require, the Board of Directors recently decided that RideABILITY would observe a Winter Break. The timing is perfect— - it'’s cold and wet these days anyway! We will be anxious to resume lessons as quickly as possible, and we will keep you informed about the timeline for our move.
More Information Coming Soon
We will continue to post updates regarding the move, work days, and the grand opening of our new location. This information will also be posted on our Facebook page.
We hope you are as excited as we are when you see our new home. We know the horses are going to love the grass, shade and roomy stalls!
See the photos of our new home on the Home page. We hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Margaret Stubblefield, Board Chair Christy Henderson, Executive Director
