Lessons

Clients may choose to participate in individual or group classes.  These classes currently meet on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.  Each class attempts to encourage communication and confidence, as well as physical benefits such as balance and core strength.
While certain directions like "heels down, toes up" may be given repeatedly, activities vary enough to keep our riders interested and focused.  Lesson activities not only teach riding skills, such as balance and reining, but also reinforce everyday skills.  For instance, we may ask a student to count rings as s/he remove them from the ring pole, or name the ring's color.  Each rider must communicate with the leader and the instructor in order to move forward and to change speeds.  Our riding lessons provide children with horsemanship skills as well as reinforcing communication skills and lessons learned else where.

Safety First!

Our Instructor

All lessons take place in our outdoor arena, though on really nice days we venture on trail rides around the outside of the arena.  Riders, particularly those first starting, mount from our ramps.  Volunteers on either side help steady the horse and safely place the participant.

Lessons typically cost $25.  Qualified students may receive reduced fees.  Please contact Christy Henderson for a rider packet and more information regarding schedules and payments.

Currently, classes may only be scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.  Volunteer availability and our few certified instructors limit the openings for classes.  If you are interested in becoming a certified instructor or a volunteer please visit the Volunteer page.
